Call for Papers for “Atmospheres Related to Climate and Weather of the Sun-Earth System”

Submission acceptance begins 1 March 2009
Submission deadline 30 April 2009

The Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP) has initiated a new international scientific program called Climate and Weather of the Sun-Earth System (CAWSES) which aims at a better understanding of the Sun-Earth system, including solar-terrestrial influences on global change. CAWSES has mobilized the international solar-terrestrial science community and has resulted in coordinated experimental and theoretical studies.

CAWSES focuses on a better understanding of the influence of the Sun on the terrestrial atmosphere, including the variability of solar forcing, the absorption of radiation and particles, the generation and modification of photochemically active trace gases, the generation of waves and tides, and the coupling and distribution mechanisms within the atmosphere. Experimental and theoretical studies aim to identify and understand solar signals in various atmospheric parameters and the physical and photochemical processes involved. Solar-induced long-term variations are compared with anthropogenic climate change where the focus is on heights above the troposphere.

Manuscripts should be submitted through the GEMS Web site.
